IIAN & IIABA - Representing the Independent Agent's Interest

The Unicameral
The Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska represents independent agents by proactively influencing legislation on issues affecting our industry.  Professional legislative representation and the association staff continually network with members to develop and introduce new laws and advocate IIAN's position on relevant legislation.  Examples of IIAN's past leadership in Nebraska include:
  • Agent Licensing Laws
  • Pre-licensing and Continuing Education Laws
  • Worker's Compensation Reform
  • Navigator Registration Act
The foundation of IIAN's legislative advocacy is a pro-active, member-driven Legislative committee.  If you are interested in being involved, contact Carol McClelland at the IIAN office - 1-800-377-3985, carol.mcclelland@biginebraska.org.

U.S. Congress
IIABA is renowned for its effectiveness on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. and continues to be recognized as one of Washington's top lobbying groups.  Backed by a formidable grassroots program made up of 6,500 key contact agents, IIABA has played a role in shaping legislation in areas including insurance regulation, crop insurance, tax reform, and health/managed care reform.   IIABA’s government affairs team works on a bipartisan basis—through lobbying, hands-on grassroots activities and media outreach—to educate lawmakers on legislative issues critical to independent insurance agents and brokers.

Nebraska Insurance Department/Industry

IIAN maintains a close working relationship with the Nebraska Insurance Department, ISO, NCCI and insurance companies in an effort to provide a united voice in advocating policies and changes which best serve the needs of our members and insurance consumers.  These open channels of communication continue to foster increased support for Big "I" programs and member needs.
