| This spring, two UNK students enrolled in the College of Business and Technology will be the first recipients of the “Mark B. Lisko Memorial Scholarship” thanks to the IIAN Foundation. This is a brand-new scholarship the IIAN Foundation has created in partnership with the University of Nebraska Foundation. UNK sophomores or juniors in the College of Business and Technology majoring in agri-business, management, or marketing can now apply for one of 2 scholarships, $637.50 each. One of these scholarships can be renewed for one year. Preference may be given to students who express interest in the insurance industry and wish to remain in Nebraska following graduation from UNK. “I’m excited to get this scholarship awarded and increase the awareness within our membership that we have named this scholarship in honor of Mark,” said Jon Hongsermeier, IIAN Foundation President. Mark Lisko, principal of Insurance Planning Associates, Omaha, passed away on April 27, 2020. Mark was a gentle force who could always lighten the mood in a room and spent much of his life helping others. He was an outstanding leader who put his whole heart and mind into his work for the Big ‘I” and its members, especially young agents. In addition to serving on and chairing many IIAN committees through the years, Mark served as president of both the IIA of Omaha and IIAN, and represented Nebraska on the National Big "I" Board from 2014-2020. The IIAN Foundation promotes insurance education in Nebraska universities to help attract students to careers in the independent agency system. With your support, we can continue to provide the tools needed to create new career opportunities and fill them with the best students and employees Nebraska has to offer.
