Van Winkle, Brodersen Earn Insurance Professional Scholarships

Big “I” Nebraska and the IIAN Foundation are proud to announce the most recent winners of our Insurance Professional Scholarships!

The First Year Scholarship for up to $500 goes to Nick Van Winkle of Edgewater Insurance in Ogallala, and the Year 2-5 Scholarship for up to $1,000 goes to Tammy Brodersen of Midland Insurance Agency in Bloomfield.

Though she has 30-plus years of experience in other areas of the insurance industry, Brodersen has shown her mettle over the last year or two learning the ropes of commercial lines of insurance and managing the Bloomfield branch of her agency.

As Brodersen wrote in her application essay, this scholarship will allow her to take classes to fill in the spaces of her 22 months of experience in commercial and personal lines of insurance, and build upon her insurance knowledge for future success.

After 17 years in the retail industry, Nick Van Winkle moved back home and closer to family in 2022. He ended up changing career paths and taking a new role as a producer with Edgewater Insurance in Ogallala.

In his essay, Van Winkle wrote that it has been a very busy several months since he began his insurance career journey, but he has hit the ground running earning licenses, building relationships, and discovering more about the industry day by day.

"I've got ambitious goals to learn all I can, absorb all I can, and help make a positive impact on Ogallala and the surrounding communities by growing into a knowledgeable and trusted insurance partner," Van Winkle said in his essay.

Thank you to all who applied; we love to see that members are passionate about furthering their education!

The next opportunity to earn this scholarship will be in July 2023. Learn more on our Insurance Professional Scholarship webpage.
