October 8, 1970 - July 8, 2023

Steven Gregory "Greg" Donsbach, 52, of Omaha, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

Greg Donsbach was an influencer in the insurance industry for the past 25 years.  As untimely and unexpected his passing was, we want to continue to honor his contributions and impact in our industry.

Donsbach has served in a variety of capacities in all aspects of insurance operations as an MGA and/or insurance carrier executive.  Donsbach led Underwriting, Distribution, Claims, Audit, and built multiple workers compensation programs in his various roles.

Donsbach’s insurance career started in 1998 at FirstComp Insurance, now part of Markel.  Donsbach had a unique skill set that materialized throughout FirstComp’s growth stages, building an industry leading workers compensation platform from $2M in written premium to over $500M in a 10 year span.

Donsbach expanded the geographic footprint and regionalized the company, allowing for people to step into roles and created a multitude of new jobs across the country.  He impacted the lives and careers of so many people by offering opportunities to grow into roles and gain extensive experience throughout the industry.

A few years post the Markel acquisition, he decided to develop and found another workers compensation MGA, Method Insurance, out of Omaha, NE.  Method focused on mid-market accounts with higher hazard risks.  After about 3 years, Donsbach sold Method Insurance to Salus Workers Compensation, LLC.  Donsbach built a team of over 50 employees and wrote over $100M in written premium nationwide with multiple carrier partners.

Donsbach attended the University of Alabama and graduated from the University of North Alabama with a Bachelor of Science, Finance in 1995.  He was a licensed Property and Casualty Producer and served on the IIAN Foundation Board of Directors from 2018 to 2021.

He was an serial entrepreneur, successful businessman, visionary, and mentor.  He was passionate about helping people and guiding them to find their path and build their career.  Greg lived his life to the fullest and was typically the life of the party in any room.  He would want his legacy to be continued by supporting young professionals coming into the insurance industry, creating a path for their success.
